Partners in Art present Beyond the Visible: Hilma af Klint

Watch history get rewritten as Swedish artist Hilma af Klint finally takes her rightful place in history as a pioneer of abstract art. Over a century after her first boldly colourful painting got eclipsed by Wassily Kandinsky, she became the subject of a monumental Guggenheim exhibition, “Paintings for the Future”—at last getting the credit she deserves. Beyond the Visible investigates why it took so long, the stubborn mechanisms behind canonization, and the art world’s reluctance to give a woman what is fair and deserved. Does gender impact the value of art?

Followed by a panel discussion “From Hilma af Klint to today: Does gender impact the value of art?”, moderated by Sara Angel,

arts journalist and Executive Director of Art Canada Institute.

Featuring:

• Shary Boyle, renowned Canadian contemporary artist who represented Canada at the Venice Biennale in 2016;

• Georgiana Uhlyarik, the Fredrik S. Eaton Curator, Canadian Art at the AGO
