Paddle Canada Level-1 Sea Kayaking Skills Course
The Paddle Canada Level-1 Sea Kayak Skills course is a 16 hour (2 day) course that moves participants beyond flatwater kayaking and into the sport of sea kayaking.
With guidance of a Paddle Canada instructor, participants learn to kayak in slightly rougher water while improving upon the fundamental skills and techniques learned in the Paddle Canada Basic Kayak Skills Course.
There is strong focus on capsizing, wet exits and re-entry techniques, efficient strokes, as well as skills required to safely plan and execute a day trip with friends including navigation & route planning, weather interpretation, proper clothing and gear, etc.
Successful participants achieve a nationally recognized certification and will be able to more confidently paddle in a broader range of conditions in the company of paddlers with similar skills or knowledge.
The Level-1 Sea Kayak Skills certification is a prerequisite for Paddle Canada's Level-2 Sea Kayak Skills courses offered nationally at registered Paddle Canada Schools.
The course includes all equipment and safety gear (Dagger Stratos 14.5 Sea Kayak, Paddle, Sprayskirt, PFD, Pealess Whistle, Manual Bilge Pump, 15m Buoyant Heaving Line).
