North York Concert Orchestra presents Donizetti's L'Elisir d'Amore

The North York Concert Orchestra presents L’Elisir d’Amore, Donizetti’s bubbly romantic comedy about a spunky landowner, a hapless peasant, and a dubious love potion that may or may not bring them together. This enchanting opera, sung in the original Italian with English surtitles, will feature incredible soloists, a chorus, and a 35-piece orchestra.

Several Canadian Opera Company ensemble and chorus members add their talents to the concert including soprano Emily Rocha who stars as Adina, imbuing her character with lovable warmth while tossing off effortless coloratura passages from beginning to end. Tenor David Walsh plays Nemorino, Adina’s love-struck admirer, who pours out his heart in the moving aria “Una furtiva lagrima.” The cast also includes baritone Anthony Rodrigues as the swaggering Sergeant Belcore and Chad Quigley as the wily Dr. Dulcamara.

L’Elisir d’Amore is a light-hearted opera buffa about a spunky landowner, a hapless peasant, and the dubious love potion that may or may not bring them together. This “will they / won’t they” tale keeps audiences guessing—and laughing—from the first note to the last.
