New Fantasy Exhibit in Toronto: Borough of Ghosts
Known for creating the iconic Lovebot and launching the global Love Invasion movement, Matthew Del Degan's work has always celebrated kindness and connection. With his latest exhibition, Borough of Ghosts, premiering on Friday, November 8, 2024, at Worth Gallery, he dives deeper into his own story, using art to confront his challenges and celebrate the resilience that brought him through them.
From his time as a patient at CAMH to becoming a creative ambassador, Del Degan has channeled his struggles with mental health and addiction into bold, transformative art. This haunting yet whimsical collection of paintings, illustrations, and sculptures offers a first look into two chapters of his upcoming fantasy novel.
Through the story of Claire, an underwater princess searching for inner peace, and a striking triptych of twisted monsters symbolizing his journey from darkness to healing, Del Degan’s work reflects the strength found in vulnerability. The exhibit also features over 30 new Lovebot sculptures, complementing its nautical themes, along with pieces from his "1st Of The Month" Lovebot collection.
The exhibition opens with an artist reception at Worth Gallery (830 Dundas St W, Toronto, ON) and will run for three weeks, including three special artist talks and Q&A sessions, offering a deeper look into the creative process behind Borough of Ghosts.
