GARY TOPP/CIUT 89.5 present culture jammers, NEGATIVLAND
Remember Casey Kasem’s swearing in radio outtakes? Or U2/Island Records’s lawsuits? Since 1980, Negativland, an audio-video collective originally from the San Francisco area, have created albums, video, books, radio and live performance by mixing bits and pieces grabbed from corporately owned mass culture and surreally re-arranging them to send a message that was never intended. “Twisted genius, compelling parody and satire as a grass roots weapon of consumer resistance” (Rolling Stone).
