Myung-Sun Kim: Living Spirits
RSVP for free admission: moca.ca/shop/myung-sun-kim/
Myung-Sun Kim's artist talk, "Living Spirits," explores the practice of Makgeolli, Korean fermented rice wine, which survived many decades of prohibition through Japanese Occupation and military dictatorship. In making Makgeolli, raw ingredients nearing their expiration transform into an entirely different being through the process of fermentation suggesting alchemy, a sense of magic. "Living Spirits" expands on ideas around lineage, desire, longing, care, resilience and sustenance through its consideration of recipes as instructional artefacts of memory and time.
