Minecraft Summer Camp at MOCA

Join MOCA Toronto for its first week-long summer camp from July 3-7, developed in partnership with select students and graduates of the John H. Daniels School of Architecture. This week-long programme explores concepts of city-building, technology and urban design through Minecraft. Each day, participants will be led by the camp leaders in play directed by an expansive curriculum on architectural design. Campers will develop skills around design, teamwork, visual communication and creativity. The programme will merge the worlds of play and architectural studies to better understand our built environment.

This summer camp programme is informed by MOCA’s current exhibition Impostor Cities, which is all about Canada’s architectural identity and the way Canada’s buildings and cities double as other places in film and television. Exploring new directions for architecture, Impostor Cities brings us together in a shared cityscape — likewise, this camp examines Minecraft as a powerful site of architectural experience, expression and authenticity that functions as a tool to recreate locations.

Please note that a laptop, charger and Minecraft: Java Edition are required for this activity. These activities are youth-friendly and ideally geared towards ages 8-12, but every activity can be adapted to suit the needs and capabilities of each participant.
