The March Show
What can we say? It's March, so we present to you a buffet of outstanding artists!
Features Include:
Within - Music
Within is an emerging freak folk trio from Toronto whose first EP will be coming out this February. Their music is lyrical, intimate and idiosyncratic, merging the diverse musical backgrounds of the trio. Guitarist Chris Trotter also composes ambient, experimental electronica as Iderdown, lyricist/vocalist/pianist Judith Muster has background in choral and classical music, and Bassist Cory Kane is an alt-rocker.
Their minimal music alternates between restrained structure and emphatic melodic complexity, underpinned by intricate lyrics that embrace these extremes. In haunting songs about desire, vulnerability and disenchantment, Within generates tension only to leave it unresolved. Check out their Facebook page for videos! https://www.facebook.com/PagingWithinComeInWithin/
Justin Lam - Poetry
Justin Lam is a writer, and poet from Marham, Ontario. His works have appeared in Passions Poetry Magazine, Antidote Magazine, PACE Magazine, and his short story “For What It’s Worth” placed second in the 2016 Carleton Creative Writing Contest. He was an editor at In/Words Magazine and Press, and completed a degree in English Literature with a minor in Film Studies at Carleton University (Official). His Poetry is sad and he is sorry.
Alyssa Pisciotto - Visual Arts + Crafting
Alyssa is from LaSalle, Ontario and now resides in Toronto. They graduated from OCAD University in 2016 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts, majoring in Drawing and Painting and minoring in Printmaking. Painting and printmaking are their primary practice.
Their current work revolves around themes of colour, line and shape, and how they interact with one another. They are a queer-identifying artist who also struggles with mental health. Their crafting practice grew as a way for them to cope with the stresses of dealing with mental health and anxiety. Learn more on the website: www.alyssapisciotto.com
YULING CHEN - Video Art + Prose
Yuling Chen is an integrated media artist, born on a tropical island in China. Their work explores different realms of consciousness: personal versus national, anecdotal versus historical, and aesthetic versus repressed fantasies. Through deconstructing materials they reconstruct context and meaning.
They were recently awarded the fellowship Global Experience Project, where they mentored under Isaac Julien and exhibited at the Ada Sleight Gallery in OCAD University. Their work is chosen as a part of the series This Art Works produced by Madeleine Co. They're currently completing my BFA at the OCAD University in Toronto, Canada.
