Making a Museum Safeguarding Sharing Celebrating
The best museums in the world are places where reflection informs and gives context to the present, and most importantly, the future. In celebration of the Ukrainian Museum of Canada, Ontario Branch’s 80th anniversary, a new exhibition, Making a Museum: Safeguarding, Sharing, Celebrating!, will open on Friday, October 25, 2024. This exhibition honours the Museum's founders and those who have continued their vital work for eight decades. Featuring some of the most treasured (and rarely shown) artifacts from our collection, it will tell the story of our donors, artifacts, and diaspora, weaving together the rich history of our Museum.
In light of the ongoing war in Ukraine, which has led to the destruction of museums and cultural institutions, this exhibition takes on even greater significance. It highlights the resilience of Ukrainian culture in the face of adversity and underscores the urgent need to preserve and celebrate this heritage, even from a distance.
As we reflect on the past, the Ukrainian Museum of Canada, Ontario Branch stands poised to play a vital role in the future. By engaging new generations and welcoming new Canadians, we aim to cultivate a deeper appreciation for Ukrainian culture and history, ensuring that it continues to thrive in our community.
