Lucan Coutts and Max Whitehead are two of Toronto’s most prominent street photographers.

Through their surrealist interpretation of the landscape, they investigate the dynamics of the city, focusing on the manipulation of its effects. In such a vibrant and dramatic approach, the limits of spectacle based on everyday assumptions are forever changed.

Rather than presenting a factual reality, an illusion is fabricated to conjure the realms of our imagination.

Both of these photographers establish a link between Toronto’s reality and that imagined by its conceiver.
