Lost in La Mancha

Terry Gilliam is decorated by success—films like Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Life of Brian, and Brazil are practically as well-known as the American cheeseburger. But have you heard of The Man Who Killed Don Quixote? If not, there’s a good reason. The film Gilliam set out to make—an adaptation of the 15th-century novel Don Quixote, starring Johhny Depp—is cursed and sabotaged by back injuries, dangerous storms, and so much more. Everything that can go wrong, does, and directors Keith Fulton and Louis Pepe are there to document all the doom in their underrated cringe-fest, Lost in La Mancha. In the same vein as The Disaster Artist or America’s Funniest Home Videos, this 2002 staple is full of heartbreak, humour and hernias.
