Nothing short of a world music institution, Lo'Jo have been going strong for 30 years now. That they won the prestigious 2013 Songlines Music Award for Best Group just shows how much vitality this collective from the south-west of France still has. Their tenth album, Cinéma el Mundo, released last year, betrays no sign at all that they intend to slow down and continues to embrace a global sound where borders blur and genres blend seamlessly.

Lo'Jo's legend extends to Toronto via Small World and Lula Lounge. Their concert here in the fall of 2002, in Small World's infancy and the first year of the club's opening, remains a touchstone for world music fans, for the venue and the presenter. We're delighed to revive the wonderful engery they bring a full dozen years later! With their beguilling blend of sensuous Middle Eastern harmonies provided by sisters Nadia and Yasmina Nid el Mourid, reggae, French chanson, African, Arabic and Gypsy flavours, theirs is an eclectic sound that remains stylishly current three decades on.
