Judith Cohen
Musician, storyteller and ethnomusicologist Judith Cohen invites us to an intimate, informal concert based on the songs she’s learned over the decades on travels and adventures on several continents – and here in Toronto and in her native Montreal.
With four musical guests, she’ll sing songs from the Sephardic Mediterranean, from Spain, Portugal, the Balkans; from closer to home in Acadie and Québec and from further back in time, to the songs of the medieval troubadours.
Judith accompanies herself on medieval bowed vièle and henna-painted bendirs, and her guests add oud, tombek, daff, accordion, contrabass and vocals.
Her guests:
Tamar Ilana: singing, traditional percussion
Demetrios Petsalakis: oud, Greek baglama, guitar
Naghmeh Fahramand: Iranian percussion
Rachel Melas: accordion, contrabass
