Contrast is an integral part of defining the separation between all things. Be it light versus dark, bold versus subtle, internal versus external, and the physical versus spiritual, it is the relationship between these elements that comprise the experience of the work. It is our human nature to attempt to break down these notions and and create in our minds a perceived polarity between them. In reality truth is found somewhere in between.
