Important Cinema Club Masterpiece Classics: Fantasy Mission Force

Amazon women! Ghosts! Hopping vampires! Kung fu! Car stunts! World War II battle scenes! Musical numbers! Anything can happen in Fantasy Mission Force, the weirdest and wackiest movie in Jackie Chan’s filmography.

It’s a Taiwanese Dirty Dozen when a hard-boiled army lieutenant (Jimmy Wang Yu) rounds up a band of outlaws for a daring mission to rescue kidnapped American general Abraham Lincoln. Jackie tags along as a small-time con man who learns more about the lieutenant than he bargained for. “If it sounds ridiculous, that’s only because it was,” wrote Jackie of this film in his 1998 memoir. So how did Hong Kong’s biggest movie star find himself in a Taiwanese exploitation film? The answer: he owed a big favour to Jimmy Wang Yu, a well-connected man who helped him get out of a tricky underworld dispute.

From visionary director Kevin Chu Yen-ping, Important Cinema Club is proud to present the offer that Jackie Chan couldn’t refuse – and a night of pure, anything-goes entertainment.
