Plants are our friends, air purifiers, dehumidifiers and design objects. They’re also a bit tricky to keep alive.

Do you love houseplants, but can’t seem to keep them alive? This workshop will help you turn your black thumbs into green thumbs. Get ready to take your plant parenthood to the next level by understanding light, water and soil requirements for popular houseplants and how to identify and select the best plants for your home.

If your succulents have gone gooey, your Ivy dried up, and your Fiddle Leaf Fig tree has lost all of it’s leaves — you’ll walk away from this workshop understanding why. Sometimes plants die because you love them too much (overwatering). Or they go brown because they’ve crisped in front of your South facing window. Whatever the cause, you’ll go from plant murderer to novice indoor gardener in no time.

We’ll cover light, water, soil, repotting, a brief history of indoor house plants, propagating, dealing with pests and troubleshooting when your plant friends are looking sad (plus a Q&A to ask all your burning questions).

Everyone will leave with an informative handout on plant care, as well as a 4” terracotta planter and 4” cactus/succulent, which you will learn how to repot in class!

Who’s teaching?

Jenny Morris is the plant lady behind Plantbaby studio. Working within the Jungleloft (aka her home in Toronto) Jenny makes and sells macrame and beaded plant hangers along with hand-picked, one of a kind vintage planters. Jenny loves working with her hands (and encouraging others to do this same!) being in the woods and teaching workshops. She documents her plant obsession and jungle home on Instagram at @plantbabystudio with over ten years of experience keeping house plants alive in her home and professionally.

Grow-Op transforms the Gladstone Hotel’s galleries with 20+ immersive installations that take on this year’s theme, weather! Now in its eighth year, this four-day festival is rooted in urbanism, environmental sustainability, landscape design and contemporary art.
