High Tea Cinema: Becoming Jane
Ease your way into the holiday hustle and give yourself the gift of an afternoon of tea, scones, and a sweet love story that (maybe) inspired some of our favourite regency-era romances!
Anne Hathaway stars as a young Jane Austen, whose financially strapped parents (James Cromwell, Julie Walters) expect her to marry the nephew of wealthy Lady Gresham (the late Maggie Smith). Jane knows that such a union will destroy her creativity and sense of self-worth so instead, she becomes involved with Tom Lefroy (James McAvoy), a charming but penniless apprentice lawyer who gives her the knowledge of the heart she needs for her future career as a novelist.
Their passionate romance serves as the inspiration for the budding novelist’s work and fuels Jane’s dream of doing the unthinkable – marrying for love.
With tea from Pippins Tea and scones from Gerrard St. Bakery, you’re in for a real pre-holiday treat!
