Ars Mechanica's performance/research takes its name from Empress Elisabeth of Austria who was a self-professed "slave to her hair. Sisi investigates the personal and professional labour of hairdressing an animation of the deathly.

Ars Mechanica is an experimental and interdisciplinary performance collective founded in 2011 by Joe Culpepper, Sasha Kovacs, Natalie Mathieson and Vojin Vasovic. Employing stage magic, theatre, music and film, the collective devises intimate engagements with compelling histories. Ars Mechanica's projects Show and Tell Alexander Bell, Telephoney and Life? or Theatre? have been presented in Toronto at Summerworks Performance Festival, Long Winter Series, and Arezzo, Italys Crisis Art Festival.

Harbourfront Centre's annual performing arts residency and presentation series, HATCH is a situation where new work and new audiences come together in the spirit of inquiry.
