Hagar

Toronto Premiere presented by Hagar Collective, Pleiades Theatre, and Canadian Arabic Orchestra – Maple Arts

A play by Aksam Alyousef

Directed by Morgan Norwich

Starring Amena Shehab

In a world marred by turmoil and desperation, Hagar by Aksam Alyousef reveals the gripping odyssey of a determined mother striving to find safety with her infant son. Amidst the chaos of a war-torn Syria, the story delves into the shadows of our troubled reality, exposing the vulnerability and resiliency of refugee women in a ruthless world.

Hagar had its world premiere, in both English and Arabic, in 2018 at Edmonton’s ATB Arts Barns, and was remounted in 2019 as part of the Edmonton Fringe Festival, to rave reviews.

“Shehab pushes [on] with sadness and uncertainty and vulnerability as the audience’s hearts break with her.”

— David Breakenridge, Edmonton Journal
