Grow Op 2019 at the Gladstone
Grow Op at the Gladstone Hotel celebrates its seventh year with an exhibition of art, design and ideas on urbanism, landscape design, and contemporary art.
The 2019 edition considers ENERGY; Clean energy, dirty energy, social energy, positive energy, negative energy, climate energy, embodied energy, resilient energy. Do we hoard, waste, commodify, burn it, or do we store, reuse, renew it? How humans and other species live within and without natural systems of growth, change, abundance, scarcity, decay and life.
Curated by Christine Leu and Alan Webb of LeuWebb Projects, with Lee Petrie, Exhibitions Director, Gladstone Hotel.

As part of Grow Op, the Gladstone is pleased to present our second annual Grow Op International Artist Residency. The residencies begin at Artscape Gibraltar Point on Toronto Island and then continue at the Gladstone during the exhibition. The residencies are designed to provide artists with the opportunity to engage with our city, connect with other artists, and deepen the conversation around crucial issues. This year’s residency features two artists. We welcome Maria Thereza Alves (Berlin, Germany and Naples, Italy) and Mary Kavanagh (Lethbridge, Alberta). The artists discuss their practices, and what they learned and created during their residencies. We invite you to relax, grab a drink and learn more from these artists.
