Group Therapy: An Original Musical Comedy!
This hysterical and moving musical follows six strangers who are all dealing with their own issues and decide that traditional therapy isn’t cutting it for them. Together, they decide to form their own support group. Each character reveals their deep-rooted issues, while other members of the group join them on an outing of their choice. Group Therapy, through the use of comical characters and quirky musical numbers draws attention to psychological issues, while maintaining an upbeat attitude. They go on outings ranging from house parties, to bars and even historical reenactments to explore what they are struggling with, while exposing some of the unknown difficulties of mental health.
This fringe festival debut from director/playwright Marina Moreira brings the audience into the real world of mental health and challenges them to weigh the value of institutional therapy against social support. Giggling Aristophanes is making its debut at this year’s Fringe Festival with Group Therapy. Co-created by Marina Moreira and Luisa Alvarez Restrepo, the company seeks to explore the staying power of human issues, and their effects on the state of society under a comic light.
