Part comedic roast, part satirical awards show and 100% fundraiser, The Shamies are fictional awards presented to the worst perpetrators of problematic media. That's right, for one night only, we're calling out the most sexist, racist and oppressive forms of media and providing them their very own SHAMIE.

Your roast hosts for the evening will be comedian Nelu Handa (organizer of Yas Kween, a monthly comedy night for women of colour, and writer on the Baroness Von Sketch show) and our very own features editor and podcast host, Julia de Laurentiis Johnson.

We will also be celebrating the best new writers as we present the prizes for the third annual Talking Back Awards, judged by incredible authors Catherine Hernandez, Alicia Elliott and Canisia Lubrin and awarded to the top youth writers in fiction, non-fiction, and poetry. Some of the winners will read from their works to help us celebrate youth writing.

This evening will feature excellent tunes by DJ Zehra and food provided with love from the Afghan Women's Catering Group. Please note, this is a cash bar.
