FEMPOCALYPSE
Presented by the Young Innovators with support of Nightwood Theatre.
Friday March 9th, 2018 at 8:00pm. Doors open at 7:30pm.
After an incredibly successful event last year, with over one thousand dollars in proceeds being raised for Native Women’s Association of Canada, Fempocalypse will return this year under the leadership of the 2017/2018 Young Innovators.
Nightwood Theatre’s Young Innovator Unit is a select group of young female emerging artists that are learning the essential creative and business skills for running a theatre company under the mentorship of the company’s amazing team. We are proud and excited to be acting as ambassadors for Canada’s National Women’s Theatre.
Together, we have curated a cabaret performance that consists of work from a variety of artistic disciplines and covers a range of different viewpoints and experiences.
The chosen artists have been invited to perform a new or existing piece that responds to, reflects on or in some way engages with the following prompt: “Courage can be contagious and hope can take on a life of its own” – Michelle Obama.
This year, the Young Innovators unit has decided to donate all proceeds from the event to Sistering: a local, multi-service agency for at-risk, socially isolated women in Toronto who are homeless or precariously housed.
You can read more about their work here: http://sistering.org/about-us. The representative from the organization will be present at the event to share more information about how their work is changing the game for women across Toronto, and how we can share in their contributions.
Toronto’s theatre industry is experiencing a drastic shift. Women are no longer willing to stay silent. We want to celebrate and embrace our progress and honour the voices that ignite change.
Attending artists to be announced shortly!
