Elizabeth Shepherd: MONtreal

Montreal-based Elizabeth Shepherd is back in Toronto for one night only to launch her new project, MONtréal. A multimedia ode to her hometown, it’s Shepherd’s most ambitious project to date. After 3 years of interviewing strangers who all shared but on e thing—being Montrealers—Shepherd found herself with countless stories that make up a “people’s history” of the city she loves so much, which she then wove into 11 original songs. Soulful, groovy, with a touch of electronica, MONtréal is a humanist musical odyssey, accompanied by a filmed journey through each of the places and people behind the songs.

Elizabeth Shepherd burst onto the international scene in 2006 with the release of Start to Move. Since then, the four-time JUNO nominee and two-time Polaris-Prize nominee has been featured on BBC, J-Wave (Japan), WBGO (New York), NPR, and Deutschland Radio. She has played sold-out shows at the Cotton Club (Tokyo) and The Jazz Cafe (London, UK), has shared the stage with such greats as Christian McBride and Victor Wooten, and was personally invited to open for Jamie Cullum at the Hollywood Bowl. Her 2014 album The Signal, featuring Lionel Loueke, made many international “Best Of ” lists.
