It's Not U It's Me is hosting our first round table panel on dance music history in Toronto. This panel will address the places, people, and music that have defined Toronto’s rich history of underground dance music. Our speakers, Albert Assoon, Denise Benson, Jason Palma and Stuart Li, have lived through multiple generations of promoters, producers, performers and partiers. Their experiences will help us lay a foundation from which to begin exploring the lifecycles of nightlife, the different histories that define our city’s past and shape our future. Come for the stories of crazy warehouse parties, stay for the discussion of gentrification and urban policy.

Albert Assoon is the owner and operator of Remix Lounge on Dundas West, as well as former operator of clubs Twilight Zone and RPM.

Denise Benson is a veteran radio & club DJ, and promoter. She is the author of Then & Now: Toronto Nightlife History, a must read for anybody interested in the kaleidoscopic history of Toronto's nightlife culture.

Jason Palma is one of the founding owners of Play De Record, and long time radio & club DJ.

Stuart Li has been producing music and travelling the world as Basic Soul Unit for the better part of a decade. His label Lab.Our spotlights Toronto musicians on an international stage.
