Doors Open Toronto at Evergreen Brick Works
The Don Valley Brick Works is a landmark in Toronto and a dominant feature in the Don Valley. It contains 16 historically significant buildings built from 1889 to the present, with a collection of brick-making machines and structures that contribute to this historic industrial landscape.
The late 19th century was a time of great growth in the City of Toronto. Very quickly the Don Valley Pressed Brick Works became one of the largest and most significant brick manufactures in Canada, operating until 1989.
Since 1992, Evergreen has continued to evolve Evergreen Brick Works to adapt to the new circumstances and meet the needs of its users. In 2010, the Centre for Green Cities, a LEED Platinum building, was opened showcasing green technology and design. In 2017, Evergreen is redeveloping the historic kiln building into a year-round facility striving for carbon neutrality.
