Creative Youth: Pop-up Exhibition, Workshop, and Panel Discussion
Visit MOCA Toronto from Wednesday, June 19 – Sunday, June 23 to see “Through the Eyes Of Us,” a series of public programmes curated by MOCA’s Youth Council: "Creative Youth" that include an exhibition, workshop, and panel discussion. Inspired by Toronto’s rich cultural history, this programme raises the question: how do stories affect the lives of young people? This programme, on MOCA’s ground floor, is free of charge and welcomes visitors of all ages.
A ‘zine’ is a self-published, small-circulation magazine that allows artists and writers to distribute their work without a publisher. This exhibition presents a collection of zines created by "Creative Youth" — teens aged 14 to 18 — that explore Toronto’s lore, from family chronicles to folk tales and ecological histories. Each exhibiting zine artist draws on their personal experiences, culture, and place within Toronto.
On Saturday, June 22nd, "Creative Youth" will lead a free drop-in zine-making workshop from 1–3 pm that will share what they learned with their peers and the local community. Also on Saturday at 4 pm, exhibiting artists will present their artistic processes during a live artist talk exploring what lore and world-building means to young artists.
This programme has been curated and produced by the members of "Creative Youth", showcasing their emerging artistic practices.
