Barry Jenkins' MOONLIGHT has been called "the best film of the year" by The New York Times' A.O. Scott. This special screening of the film will be followed by a panel discussion moderated by TIFF Artistic Director, Cameron Bailey, and TIKA The Creator, producer of #Gyalcast, exploring the film's themes, importance and early legacy.

The panel will feature CBC Arts writer Peter Knegt, co-founder of Collective of Black Artists, BaKari Lindsay, and filmmaker and founder of Black Women Film - Canada, Ella Cooper.

Tika Simone professionally known as TiKA is a Canadian singer-songwriter, producer, and television/web personality from Oakville, Ontario. She has appeared on MTV's The Aftershow 08-10 and is known for her spiritual soul music and media collectives #Gyalcast, #Baregyal, and The Known Unknown.

Peter Knegt is a filmmaker, author, and CBC Arts journalist and producer. His written work on queer cinema has appeared in Variety, Indiewire, the Toronto Star, Salon and Film Quarterly. His first book, About Canada: Queer Rights 11, has been taught at universities across the country, and his first short film, Good Morning 14, has screened at over 35 film festivals around the world.

BaKari Lindsay is a Trinidadian dancer, choreographer, singer, musician, costume designer, and researcher. He holds a Masters degree in Dance Ethnology as well as a Bachelors in Education from York University. He co-founded COBA Collective of Black Artists in 1993. BaKari has served on the faculty of Ryerson University, York University, Humber College, Lester B. Pearson School for the Performing Arts, and teaches fulltime with the Toronto District School Board at the Africentric Alternative School where he continues to research pedagogical strategies supported by African history and legacy.

Ella Cooper is an award-winning independent filmmaker, multimedia artist, educator, impact producer and community programmer from Toronto. She is the founder of Black Women Film! Canada, a new leadership program in partnership with TIFF, CBC, CFC and the Nia Centre for the Arts to support the development of emerging Black women filmmakers, and she also runs an annual film camp in partnership with Reel Youth and the Nia Centre.
