Cathedral Bluffs Symphony Orchestra - Ode to Joy
Join the Cathedral Bluffs Symphony Orchestra for an unforgettable concert on Saturday, October 5, 2024 at 8:00 PM as we launch our 2024-2025 season with a spectacular celebration of Beethoven's 9th Symphony, marking 200 years since its historic debut.
Led by the acclaimed Martin MacDonald, this extraordinary event will feature performances by soloists Rachel Krehm (soprano), Danielle MacMillan (mezzo-soprano), Daevyd Pepper (tenor), and Alex Halliday (bass-baritone). They will be joined by the powerful combined voices of the Pax Christi Chorale, under the direction of Elaine Choi, and the Voices Chamber Choir, led by Ron Cheung.
The evening will open with the world premiere of Joel Toews' "Fanfare 401"—a dynamic new work from a Canadian composer. Following that, the orchestra will present Matthew Emery's "Hymn of Praise", a stunning piece that evokes a sense of reflection and grandeur. The night will culminate in a performance of Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 in D minor, an iconic work that remains one of the greatest compositions in classical music history.
This concert is more than a musical performance—it's a community celebration and a tribute to the enduring spirit of joy and unity that Beethoven's 9th Symphony represents. The famed "Ode to Joy" will echo through the hall, bringing audiences together in a powerful expression of harmony and hope.
