Burning
Part of Rewind\\Redesign
Mysteries seem to multiply after struggling novelist Jong-su’s fledgling romance with the mercurial Hae-mi is interrupted by Ben, an inexplicably wealthy young man with a disconcerting hobby. As Jong-su’s jealousy turns into panicked suspicion, he navigates millennial ennui and the maddening unknowability of other people in his search for the truth. Burning marked Chang-dong Lee’s return to the director’s chair after being blacklisted by the Korean government in 2010, channeling 8 years of pent-up frustration into a film simmering with class politics.
In Korean with English subtitles.
