OUTLINE
1) DISCUSSION/INTRODUCTION: Approx:30-40min
We will begin by discussing the sport: a little bit of history, some of the rules, terminology, how it works, what it takes to be a fighter, the psychological factors involved in being a fighter and more.
2) DEMONSTRATIONS: Approx 50min
As a group, sometimes in partners for better effect:
- how to set your stance
-how to wrap your hands
-the mechanics of punching properly and safely
- footwork
- how to be efficient with your movements, as a result intensifying your workout
- introduction to the slip (defensive move)
- learn the number system and how to use it for both orthodox and southpaw stances (because ambidextrous training is highly important and recommended)
3) PROGRAM DESIGN (PRACTICAL): Approx 50min
Together we will walk and talk through an example 1 hour class using a general template that will combine all the lessons learned above. Included in this plan with be some calisthenics, partner work and heavy bag drills which you can practice on your own!
Come dressed ready to move although this will not be a full out exercise class. Every body will have their chance on the heavy bag one at a time but we will break down the combinations as a group and pause for note taking. Form will be specifically corrected and adjusted as need be.
