Bowie's Birthday: Ziggy Stardust & The Spiders From Mars
Royal Stompbox presents:
BOWIE’S BIRTHDAY:
ZIGGY STARDUST & THE SPIDERS FROM MARS
Wednesday, Jan. 8th
Ziggy returns to The Royal for David Bowie’s birthday!
David Bowie’s final electrifying performance as Ziggy Stardust in 1973 at London’s Hammersmith Odeon Theater was captured on film by legendary director D.A. Pennebaker (Don’t Look Back, Monterey Pop), who passed away in 2019. The HD restoration from Pennebaker Films is the best this (notoriously murky) historic concert has ever looked on film. Framed by behind-the-scenes footage, the bulk of the film is live concert footage, with the camera rarely cutting away from the eternally watchable Bowie. This concert is a landmark for Bowie’s abrupt announcement before “Rock N’ Roll Suicide” that this is “the last show they will ever do”, completely catching the audience (and the band!) off-guard, leading many to believe Bowie was retiring from the music business altogether.
Featuring “Hang On To Yourself”, “Watch That Man”, “Oh! You Pretty Things”, “Moonage Daydream”, “Space Oddity”, “Ziggy Stardust” (naturally!) and many more all-time jams, as well as a blistering cover of the Velvet Underground’s “White Light/White Heat” and the shock finale of “Rock N’ Roll Suicide”.
7:30pm – Bowie Pre-Show
8:00pm – Ziggy Stardust & The Spiders From Mars
