Bodies in Time & Space, CONTACT Festival Exhibition
Join IC Contemporary for their first exhibition of 2023: Bodies in Time & Space. This pop-up exhibition will be taking place for only one week, May 16th - May 21st, with the exhibition opening taking place on May 18th between 7pm-9pm. Throughout the week you can pop by the gallery to buy some coffee, local Toronto ceramics and prints, and explore this exhibition on the walls as well as virtual reality.
This pop up experience is a Pay What You Can for entry, as any and all donations help fund future pop-up galleries for local and emerging artists. We understand if you are unable to make a donation and still welcome you to join us for the exhibition.
Exhibition Summary:
Environments shift as bodies occupy their spaces. Alternatively, time can alter how we define or perceive our bodies. When we start to consider the intersectionality of the countless types of bodies in our world, we must recognize that there is no singular response to how individuals occupy time or space. As response to this action and reaction within environments, Bodies in Time & Space brings together four artists to showcases the multiplicity of their human experiences.
Ahmad Naser Eldein, Alina Chen, Cecilia Bracmort, and Diwya De Silva use personal, political, and/or sexual inquisitions of identities, decolonization, and immigration to showcase how their bodies, or bodies akin to theirs, are affected by time and space.
IC Contemporary also offers a virtual reality exhibition for this exhibition along with four additional artists. You download this experience for free at www.iccontemporary.com, or you can experience it onsite during this gallery pop-up.
This collection of photography is being presented as part of Scotiabank’s CONTACT Festival and would like to acknowledge the Ontario Arts Council, Collective Arts, and Artizen for their support, along with Messy House for the venue.
