An empowering X-hibit perfect for a date night or family night to spark mindful conversations around our inner light while celebrating Black History Month.

The world needs your light.

Have you given your light purpose and intention?

What unique light do you bring into the world?

This Black History Month, Yvonne Stanley dedicates her art to BLACK-LIGHT honouring the light workers of today. Leaders in conscious music, education, activism and filmmaking line the walls of Bayside Gallery soaked in Ultraviolet BLACK-LIGHT for a memorable night experience with stunning high contrast images. The X-Hibit is focused on empowering youth to discover their light and voice in the world. A smile can change the course of a persons life. We can not deny that our light in its smallest form can be transformational. We have all used our light before it had a name, was defined or brought to conscious awareness but when we discover it by its name for the first time it moves from passive to active. We can provide intention and purpose to our light and use it as an active tool in every part of our life, infuse it into our art, work, people and the earth. Knowing that you have a tool to call on especially in these uncertain times provides a compass to help navigate life and understand how to contribute in these times.

The X-hibit was inspired by and rooted in a message. Your light is inalienable, It can not be taken away, destroyed, given away or refused. Our light is unique, powerful, palpable and penetrating, it is loud and quiet, it rebels and it heals, it offends and intrigues. But most importantly it is our own to discover and shape.

Malcolm X’s light was rebellious and powerful, Rosa Parks light was considered offensive, inspiring and intriguing, Martin Luther Kings light was palpable and penetrating, Bob Marley’s light was healing and rebellious. While their light held a dominant characteristic in the eyes of many their light shifted and transformed moment to moment and was received differently by each person.

The artist hopes to spark internal conversations as well as conversations between parents and children around being the light, knowing your light and giving your light purpose. A child living in these uncertain times has to navigate so many challenges today with little to no control. Teaching children about their inner light and how it can be used as a form of expression, contribution and creative rebellion puts power back into the childrens’ hands. When a child understands that every bit of light they contribute to the world makes it a better and brighter place, it makes their light shine even greater and their desire to use it even stronger.

The artist also reminds viewers of an important point “We are not enlightened by calling the dark, dark. Or thinking we are only light. That is the cerebral labyrinth some have trapped themselves in.  Peace can be found when we find “over-standing”, beauty and TRUTH in both the light and the dark. There is no alpha without omega, no breath in without breath out, no giving without taking, no light without dark, each requires its opposite to exist.”
