Becoming Chava

Fiddler’s Journey to the Big Screen.

It’s a Triple Bill of Entertainment!

We begin this incredible evening with Becoming Chava, a one-of-a-kind presentation by Neva Small, who played Chava in the Academy Award-winning film, Fiddler on the Roof.

Neva shares with us behind-the-scenes secrets from her experience making the major motion picture. Hear about the adventures filming in Croatia, her camaraderie with the cast, and her memories of Topol, the superstar with whom the role of Tevye will always be associated.

Next, enjoy a screening of the new documentary Fiddler’s Journey to the Big Screen. This exciting film tells the fascinating tale of how, in the hands of Norman Jewison, the timeless Sholem Aleichem story-turned-musical became a classic Hollywood treasure.

Finally, stick around for an exclusive Q&A with Neva Small. Get all of your questions answered about everyone’s favourite movie musical!

Neva Small is an American theatrical, film and television actress and singer. She made her singing debut at the age of 10 at the New York City Opera, and her Broadway debut the following year. She has numerous acting credits both on and off-Broadway.

In 2007, she starred in the one-woman show Neva Small: Not Quite an Ingenue, a theatrical revue based on her musical career. In addition to performing and touring with Becoming Chava, Neva currently provides “edu-entertainment” for children at Jewish community centres, discussing the background of Sholem Aleichem’s stories, Marc Chagall’s paintings, and the Russian Jewish experience that inspired the Fiddler on the Roof story and film.
