Award-winning Vocalist Pandit Uday Bhawalkar Presents Dhrupad at the Aga Khan Museum
The Aga Khan Museum invites guests to an entrancing event featuring award-winning vocalist Pandit Uday Bhawalkar. Presenting Dhrupad, one of the oldest forms of North Indian classical music, Uday will be joined on stage by Sri Pratap Awad on the pakhawaj, a mellow-toned drum.
A leading vocalist of Dhrupad, Pandit Uday Bhawalkar has spent over 12 years studying in the traditional guru-shishya parampara style under Ustad Zia Fariduddin Dagar (vocal) and Ustad Zia Mohiuddin Dagar (rudra-veena). Uday often performs in India and abroad, and also teaches at institutes such as the ITC Sangeet Research Academy in Kolkata.
Growing up in a musical family, Sri Pratap Awad took to the pakhawaj at the young age of 10, learning the bhajan accompaniment style. He was selected to study classical pakhawaj at Ustad Zia Fariduddin Dagar and Ustad Bahauddin Dagar’s Gurukul in Ambe Jogai, and has since had the opportunity to accompany several talented Dhrupad artists in concert.
