Arlecchino Allegro
Clowns, Chamber Music and Chaos
From the people who brought you last year's smash success, the cabaret show Les Roses de la Vie, comes Arlecchino Allegro, a reimagining of one of Toronto Masque Theatre's greatest hits from the past, Tears of a Clown.
The original left audiences exhausted with laughter at the unpredictable antics of Nicholas Denoument and Mina Rafaella Kalishnikova and the "Maestro" Larry Beckwith. Toronto Masque Theatre will be working with these same "clowns" again, raising the bar to even higher levels of chaos and merriment.
The show will feature live music, ranging from early music to pop classics, including Roy Orbison, Mahler, Mozart, Debussy with some unexpected surprises thrown in. Grammy-nominated and internationally acclaimed mezzo-soprano, Laura Pudwell, will also be joining us in this intimate setting.
The story of Arlecchino Allegro is that representatives from the Gorgonetrevich Corps de Ballet Nationale (GCdBN), Nicholas Denoument and Mina Rafaella Kalishnikova (the talented, improv clown duo of David-Benjamin Tomlinson and Diana Kolpak), have been asked to organize a celebration for a beloved companion named Arlecchino and have hired Larry Beckwith and his musicians to perform. What is meant to be a celebration of love and joy quickly descends into mayhem.
Every year, Toronto Masque Theatre holds an intimate cabaret that allows audiences to enjoy a glass of wine from a candlelit table in the beautiful environment of the Enoch Turner Schoolhouse. Arlecchino Allegro brings together the traditions of clown, improvisation and chamber music in a marvelous collision of comic and musical fireworks.
