An evening with the ARDITTI STRING QUARTET
NEW MUSIC CONCERTS (Robert Aitken, artistic director) and MUSIC TORONTO present An Evening with the Arditti String Quartet on Thursday March 20 at Jane Mallett Theatre. The Arditti Quartet enjoys a world-wide reputation for its interpretations of contemporary and earlier 20th century music. Several hundred string quartets and other chamber works have been written for the ensemble. These works have left a permanent mark on 20th century repertoire, giving the Arditti Quartet a firm place in music history.
The Arditti Quartet first performed for New Music Concerts in 1991 and has been previously featured by Music Toronto in 1992, 1998, 2002, 2004 and 2009. The quartet is currently comprised of founder Irvine Arditti and Ashot Sarkissjan, violins, Ralf Ehlers, viola and Lucas Fels, cello. The March 20 performance includes the Canadian premiere of Hilda Paredes’ String Quartet No. 2 Cuerdas del destino (2007-8) and features works written especially for the Arditti by Elliott Carter, Brian Ferneyhough and Helmut Lachenmann.
