An Afternoon with Hedy Lamarr

Each time you use your cell phone or send an email, spare a thought for Hedy Lamarr, a Hollywood star so beautiful that people would stop talking when she entered a room. She was also brilliant. In the 1940s, she and a musician friend formulated a jam-proof radio system for guiding torpedoes. Their frequency-hopping concept underpins our present-day wireless technology.

Back Lane Studios, in partnership with the Revue Cinema, continues its Extraordinary Women series with a screening of Calling Hedy Lamarr, a lively 72-minute documentary about this complex woman, and a panel discussion.

Tickets: $11 for members, seniors, students; $14 general admission. Tickets available in advance on Eventbrite.
