Cell Gallery Amor Tempus Topos Amor, because the prime motivation for rendering the subjects that are included herein is love. Works by Mark Sterling

Tempus, because I experience a desire to spend time with these subjects in the process of making drawings, whether they be objects, projects or, most importantly, people. Tempus is also the sense of state, condition and circumstance, all of which are elements that I examine during the time I spend with my subjects.

Topos, because the word suggests, in the most general way possible, “spaces”: which is, in fact, what I see across all of my drawings. In the “architectural” ones of course – but also in the portraits, which are recognizable places within their somewhat typical patterns of association. I use the “commonplace” of the portrait to allow me to closely explore the landscapes of the faces of each of my subjects, in search of some sort of some sort of topology of mingled presences (after Michel Serres in “The Five Senses”).

The Exhibition of February 2025, consists primarily of portraits from 2023, 2024 and 2025.
