Ambient Tokens: Zin Taylor

Toronto, ON – Opening on Thursday 10 April and running until 17 May, Susan Hobbs Gallery is pleased to present an exhibition of new work by Zin Taylor.

Lending shape to something that doesn’t yet have one seems casual, as it is a translation built from logical observation. But it is not always so straightforward; imagine trying to act out the phrase: flowers growing.

Often, this active state of translation tends to be fractured, and indecipherable. The standard composition of language re-organizes itself into altered sequences, and without any inkling of ground, or floor, or dirt, these strings of ideas quickly scale into abbreviated symbols and geometric forms without distinct meaning. Think soft sci- fi and its tendency to imprecisely articulate reality. Think psychedelia; everything spinning on its axis, conglomerating and destabilizing and breaking off, becoming one thing into the next. The phrase begins to re-create itself as it unravels into a distorted mimetic projection. This is a translation of ambient condition; flowers growing turns to strangers waiting.

Susan Hobbs Gallery is open to the public Wednesday to Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and by appointment. The gallery is located at 137 Tecumseth Street, Toronto.
