Accordion
Branko Dinovi, accordion
Walter Hall University of Toronto, Faculty of Music
Thursday, February 13th at 12:10pm
Free admission
Originally intended as a solo accordion concert, Accordion has evolved into an artistic project bringing together musicians of different backgrounds, from classical to free-improv and jazz. This will be a unique opportunity for the accordion to be presented both as a solo and as an ensemble instrument.
Branko Dinovi is an accordion artist that focuses on the contemporary repertoire for the accordion. He holds a Masters degree from the Anton Bruckner Private University for Music in Linz Austria and is currently pursuing a Doctor of Musical Arts degree at the University of Toronto, where he is the teaching assistant to Order of Canada recipient Prof. Joseph Macerollo. Branko has taken part in numerous international competitions and was the grand-prize winner at the Accordion World Cup held in London UK in 2001, Das Podium competition held in Linz in 2004, and the DMA Recital Competition held at the University of Toronto in 2013. Being an avid proponent of avant-garde music, he has shared the stage with some of the finest European and Canadian improvisers including Pavel Fajt, Mia Zabelka, Johannes Frisch, Sainkho Namtchylak, Casey Sokol, Rob Clutton, Michael Lynn, Pierre Mongeon, and Rick Sacks.
