A Toronto Old Book and Paper Show
Grab a seat on the floor? No problem.
Come on into the Old Book and Paper Show. A show where folks are quite OK with taking a seat on the floor. All the better to get up close to boxes bulging with vintage magazines, newspapers and a lot more.
The only event of its kind in Ontario, this show and sale focuses on vintage printed material of every conceivable type. Dealers set up 80 tables piled high with all manner of old paper plus rare and antique books. Categories include pulp fiction, old advertising, concert, travel and movie posters, vintage comics, old photography, postcards, prints, magazines, old paperbacks, out of print books, sports memorabilia, antique maps, unusual, rare and antiquarian books and eccentricities of interest to everyone.
Hamilton dealer Jaleen Grove speaks about rarity: "We have really rare stuff, and not rare at all. We have fun, common things that people can enjoy and we also have things that we're pretty sure are the only ones left in the world."
The Old Book and Paper show is a unique event, where a visitor can spend a leisurely hour, or half a day, looking at paper relics from years and decades ago. Prices range from a dollar or two to hundreds of dollars. One thing for certain...you'll see nothing digital here.
Jenn Balogh, Toronto dealer in ephemera sums the show up nicely: "You can easily spend hours getting lost in the sheer amount of paper here."
The show takes place at the Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre, 6 Sakura Way, (DVP and Eglinton E.) Toronto, M3C 1Z5. Sunday, March 30 from 10am until 4pm. Tickets are $12 and available at the door.
