A Taste For Life Returns: Hope, Help & Home made delicious!
Did you know that in Canada, an estimated 63,110+ people are living with HIV? Despite progress in treatment, many people and families living with HIV/AIDS still face significant challenges, in addition to long-standing issues like stigma and discrimination. Indigenous and Black communities, in particular, bear a disproportionate burden, facing higher rates of new infections and lower access to essential HIV/AIDS care and support. People experiencing houselessness and unstable housing are at greater risk of HIV transmissions, and those already living with HIV additionally experience inadequate HIV health care and poorer health outcomes. Further, survivors of the HIV crisis in the 80s are now experiencing health and other challenges related to aging with HIV.
These are the many reasons why A Taste For Life (ATFL) is so important and making a much-anticipated comeback in Toronto on Wednesday, May 17, 2023.
ATFL is an annual fundraiser that brings Torontonians together to raise critical funds for Fife House, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing affordable housing supports and other essential services such as health and wellness, harm reduction, and food security initiatives, in support of people and families living with and impacted by HIV. Since it was first held over 20 years ago, the event has raised critical funds/donations for Fife House in Toronto but was put on hold during the COVID-19 pandemic. As such, this year’s return of ATFL holds even greater significance as it presents an opportunity for Torontonians to come out and have dinner in celebration of life while supporting not just Fife House, but also to support local participating restaurants that have been significantly impacted by the pandemic.
The good news is, participating in ATFL won't cost Torontonians more than what they would already spend dining out – as participating restaurants will donate a percentage of their revenue from sales of food and drinks to Fife House, though diners are also encouraged to make their own individual donations to the organization.
