2nd Annual Toronto Pan Afrikan Film Festival - Celebrating Black filmmakers in Emancipation month

TORONTO - Little Jamaica gets its own film festival for the second year with more FREE community programming. The Toronto Pan Afrikan Film Festival (TPAFF) showcases documentary films from Toronto’s Black Film creators, whose films center around African Liberation, Spirituality, Black displacement and exploitation.

The Toronto Pan Afrikan Film Festival (TPAFF) will be held from Friday August 16 to Sunday August 18 at the NIA Centre for the Arts, Canada’s first Black performing arts centre.

TPAFF’s 2nd season celebrates HER, with screening selections focused on Black and Brown Women, whose stories speak about their place in beauty, sports, mental health and her presence in society.

The opening night gala will feature the film, Black Beauty Effect: The Crown Effect created by local Toronto filmmaker Andrea Lewis.

Saturday screenings are Thirsty AF and Can You Hear Us Now? A SMALL book, by filmmaker LA Wade; Ice Queens a story about an all Black female hockey team, by director Kwame Mason; and A Ray of Hope, a story of a Tamil Canadian that travels back to Sri Lanka in search of her story, directed by filmmaker Ryan Singh.

On Sunday we screen A Mother Apart and our tribute film, Unarmed Verses by the late Toronto filmmaker Charles Officer.

The Toronto Pan Afrikan Film Festival will also host the Pan Afrikan marketplace on Saturday and Sunday from 12pm to 7pm.
