Huge new T&T Supermarket location opening soon in downtown Toronto
T&T Supermarket is set to open a brand-new location in the heart of downtown Toronto, bringing their signature shopping experience to an even broader audience.
Currently operating 36 locations across Canada and the United States, the B.C.-based supermarket chain has spent over 30 years expanding their footprint to bring an unmatched selection of specialty Asian foods, on top of meat, seafood, produce and any other groceries you may need.
Now, the supermarket chain is gearing up to open yet another location, this time serving the downtown core with a location that's just steps away from TMU campus, Sankofa Square and the Eaton Centre.
In an earlier release about the new location, CEO Tina Lee (one of the titular 'T's' in the chain's name) said that expanding their reach in downtown Toronto was a no-brainer for the company.
"We've seen such overwhelming demand at our College and Spadina location, we knew the city was ready for more," she said.
"When deciding on the location of the new store, we knew a large portion of our delivery orders were going to the Yonge and Dundas area, so it was the natural choice."
The sweeping 31,000 square foot store is taking over the plot that formerly held the World's Biggest Bookstore at 26 Edward Street, which was closed and demolished in 2013 to make way for a mixed-use condominium and retail development.
The new store is also set to be the second for the chain to feature a street food section, where shoppers can pick up a selection of quick and easy favourites from Taiwanese-style stuffed rice rolls to popcorn chicken — a huge win for the university crowd they're sure to attract.
While the news of the new location first broke back in 2023, in the blink of an eye, we've almost arrived at the big day, with the doors of T&T's second downtown Toronto location scheduled to open on Feb. 13.
A representative for T&T Supermarkets tells blogTO that there'll be a huge grand-opening event planned for when the store opens its doors, featuring lion dancing and special offers, for which the details will be shared through their Instagram account and website in the coming weeks.
If history serves, the chain can expect an impressive turnout for opening day.
The locally beloved chain isn't just making moves within city limits, though, they also recently opened their first-ever U.S. location in Bellevue, Washington on Dec. 6.
Personally, if it were up to me, there'd be a T&T Supermarket on every block.
