Ghost Chicken Toronto

Toronto restaurant known for its chicken sandwiches has closed and is becoming a bar

A Toronto restaurant that was known for its hefty, crispy chicken sandwiches has closed its doors for good, and it's about to transform into something entirely new.

After opening their doors in 2022, Ossington's Ghost Chicken quickly earned a reputation in the area for slinging a slew of "scary good" (get it? Ghost?) fried chicken sandwiches, from Nashville Hot to Sweet and Sour.

Come early June of 2024, though, just over two years after opening their doors, the chicken shop announced they'd be closing their brick-and-mortar and transitioning to only being available for delivery.

In the caption of the post, the restaurant announced that, in spite of closing their doors, they'd be seeing the Ossington community again soon, claiming to be busy "cook[ing] up something new," and it looks like there's finally some news on what, exactly, that is.

The people behind Ghost Chicken aren't going anywhere — in fact, they're currently in the process of transforming the space at 74 Ossington into a new cocktail bar called No Vacancy.

While, at the time of publication, there are few details available about the new bar, and Ghost Chicken has yet to respond to blogTO's request for comment, it appears as though Ghost Chicken Executive Chef, John Carlo Zabala is signed on to the project, so the Ossington crowd can expect some droolworthy bar bites entering the fold.

No official opening date has yet been confirmed for the bar, but No Vacancy's new Instagram account, which surfaced Thursday, July 25, claims the bar is "coming soon," so the wait shouldn't be much longer to see what the Ghost Chicken crew have been cooking up all this time.
