Award winning chocolate shop exiting Toronto neighbourhood after 18 years

An award-winning Toronto chocolate shop is bidding farewell to a neighbourhood it's called home for the past 18 years.

Stubbe Chocolates, currently located at 653 Dupont St., is a boutique chocolate shop that specializes in high-quality, artisanally crafted truffles, chocolate bars, custom chocolate designs, chocolate-dipped fruits, cookies, tortes, and pastries.

The shop's owner, Chef Daniel Stubbe, is a sixth-generation chocolate-maker and grew up in the small German town of Meppen. After joining his father in Ottawa, Chef Stubbe headed west to Toronto with the goal of bringing contemporary twists to traditional European and Stubbe family recipes.

In an announcement on the shop's social media pages, Chef Stubbe announced that the business decided on a permanent home two years ago, and was gearing up to move over the next few weeks.

Along with some behind-the-scenes photos of the new location's construction process, Chef Stubbe announced that the store would be moving over to 653 St. Clair Ave. W.

"Thank you to all of you who have supported us over the last 29 years, from our humble beginnings on Davenport Road to our home of 18 years on Dupont Street," Chef Stubbe wrote.

"Through all the many Valentine's Days, Easters, Christmases, Hanukkahs, Birthdays, weddings, graduations, etc. See you soon on St. Clair."

He also confirmed that the retail store on Dupont Street will remain open for now.

The comments section of the post was immediately flooded by loyal patrons, who mourned the loss of the shop's long-standing location but expressed excitement about a new beginning for the business.

"Best of luck. I know it's been tough but glad to see you've pushed through. I'm sure you will be very successful," one customer wrote.

"Will miss you guys on the corner, but happy you won't be far. I actually stopped in the new space yesterday, it's huge and fantastic," another person said. "It will be a great permanent home for you."
