Iconic Toronto restaurant Randy's Patties announces comeback

More than two years after closing down, much-loved Toronto patty shop, Randy's Patties, has announced they're making a comeback.

The Oakwood Village Jamaican spot has been an institution in the city ever since they first opened in 1979, serving what many consider to be the best Jamaican patties in the city.

In 2022, though, in the face of lingering financial and staffing challenges from the pandemic, paired with seemingly endless construction in the area, the business closed its doors after nearly 40 years.

The outpouring of heartbreak from the public was immediate — even Drake himself offered to buy the restaurant to keep it in business, but ultimately it was to no avail, and the restaurant shut its doors seemingly for good.

Until this week, that is, when locals noticed a revamped facade and new signage going up, along with flyers in the window proudly declaring the restaurant is "reopening soon."

The restaurant itself confirmed their comeback with a post on their Instagram on July 11, with a caption that reads "icons never die. Sometimes they just take a break. RANDY'S IS RETURNING TO LITTLE JAMAICA! Stay tuned."

A representative from Randy's confirms to blogTO that the reopening will be coming soon — after the restaurant upgraded their signs and underwent a massive kitchen renovation — but the exact reopening date is currently under wraps.

Until then, Toronto patty fanatics can rest easy knowing they'll be able to tuck into a Randy's patty once more in the near future.

Randy's Patties will be located at 1569 Eglinton Avenue West.
