Michelin-approved Toronto restaurant is closing to undergo 'transformation'
A Michelin-approved restaurant in Toronto will soon be closing its doors, but don't worry — it won't last for long.
When news broke that Little Italy French restaurant, Pompette would soon be closing its doors, the news came served with a hefty side of confusion as to why a restaurant as well-regarded as this would possibly be calling it quits.
Serving as ground zero for other successful spin-offs, like Bar Pompette (which was recently ranked one of the best bars in North America) and Bakery Pompette, the restaurant itself is Michelin-recommended and, as far as people in the city can tell, not wanton for patronage.
Fear not, though, because Jonathan Bauer, co-founder and sommelier at Pompette, confirms to blogTO that the impending closure isn't a permanent one — more of a hibernation before the restaurant emerges a new and improved version of itself.
"We are excited to announce that Pompette will be undergoing a transformation," Jonathan tells blogTO.
The restaurant is heading in a "fresh new direction," Jonathan says, which will include a simpler and more accessible menu honing in on Franco-Italian cuisine and an "enhanced wine experience."
The metamorphosis begins when the restaurant closes its doors on Saturday, Aug 3, but will reopen for its new chapter around Aug 10 — so you won't have to wait too long before seeing exactly what Jonathan and his wife, co-founder and chef Martine Bauer, have in store.
With any luck, this new direction will help to secure a long, fruitful future for Pompette, with no more closure scares on the horizon — but, really, who needs luck when you have Michelin on your side, anyway?
